Rooney set for China move?

Cape Town - Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is reportedly on the verge of a move to the Chinese Super League.

The Sunday Mirror reported that a number of Chinese Super League clubs are prepared to offer £140 million for the 31-year-old, which would make him the highest-paid footballer in the world.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho would not be drawn on any involvement in such a move, while the Chinese Super League transfer window lasts until February 28.

Mourinho said "the only player that I am aware of a possibility to leave — and I am waiting for January 31 to know what really is going on — is Ashley Young, a player that I would love to keep."

Rooney, the United goalscoring record-holder, would face a massive series of lifestyle changes if he does sign a deal in China.

The Chinese Super League’s top clubs are based in Shanghai and Beijing, meaning a stark change in scenery from a luxury mansion in rural Cheshire.

Rooney has 18 months left on his contract at United, but according to the newspaper the club is reportedly set to sanction his transfer within the next four weeks.
