Rooney fined two week's wages for drink-driving

Cape Town - Wayne Rooney has been fined two weeks' wages after being convicted of drink-driving.

The Everton striker will donate his roughly £300,000 wages to local projects by way of Everton's Community scheme.

The former England captain was arrested on 1 September for driving while three times the legal limit.

He was handed his sentence while at court on Monday where he was reportedly apologetic for his actions.

He has also been banned for driving for two years and must perform 100 hours of community service along with £170 legal costs.

Sport24 reported that the Everton striker apologised for an "unforgivable lack of judgement" following his sentencing in court in northern England for drink-driving while his pregnant wife and their three sons were on holiday.

He was stopped by police when driving a woman's black Volkswagen Beetle at around 02:00 and later arrested and bailed.
