Prandelli: I immediately said no to Leicester job

Cape Town - Cesare Prandelli says he turned down the chance to take over as manager of Leicester City as a result of the way Claudio Ranieri was treated by the club.

Ranieri was dismissed following his side's Champions League last-16 first leg defeat to Sevilla, with the Foxes also languishing very close to the relegation places, in 17th spot, following a disastrous defence of their Premier League crown.

Caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare has since overseen an incredible transformation in Leicester's fortunes, with three wins from their last three league games, as well as succeeding in turning around their Champions League deficit, to secure a quarter-final match-up with Atletico Madrid.

Former Fiorentina and Italy head coach Prandelli has, however, now revealed he refused to consider the option of taking over at Leicester.

He told SFR Sport: "I immediately said no. You don’t accept a job like that. You don’t go there [Leicester] after seeing how Ranieri was treated. I am not going there. Full stop.”

He added: "[Ranieri is] a coach who won a memorable, historic title and is then dumped after a few months.”

Prandelli was most recently emplpyed as manager of Valencia but quit after just ten days. Roy Hodgson and Guus Hiddink remain in the running to take over at City next season.
