Monk appointed Middlesbrough manager

London - Garry Monk has been tasked with guiding Middlesbrough straight back up to the Premier League after the club named him as manager on Friday.

The 38-year-old Englishman - who has impressed at both Swansea in the Premier League and then fallen English giants Leeds in the Championship last season - will be presented to the press on Monday.

"Middlesbrough FC are delighted to confirm the appointment of Garry Monk as the club's new manager. Garry will be officially unveiled at a media conference on Monday," read Middlesbrough's statement.

Monk, who replaces Aitor Karanka on a permanent basis after Steve Agnew was interim manager following the Spaniard's resignation in mid-March, turned down offers of a new contract with Leeds last month.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
