Cape Town - Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough have strengthened their options in goal after signing USA international Brad Guzan from Championship outfit Aston Villa.
The 31-year-old joins the Boro on a two-year contract and becomes manager Aitor Karanka's eight signing of the off-season.
Guzan will battle it out with former Barcelona and Manchester United player Victor Valdes for the number one spot as the Boro aim to consolidate their position in England's top flight after earning promotion from the Championship last season.
Middlesbrough also have Dimitrios Konstantopoulos on their books, meaning they are now well stocked in the goalkeeping department.
Guzan joined Aston Villa from Chivas USA in 2008, and went on to make 144 appearances for the Villans.
