FT: Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United - Wayne Rooney scores the only goal of the game at Anfield as Manchester United perform a real smash and grab to take three points. Louis van Gaal has won all four league games against Liverpool.
Liverpool are peppering high crosses into the United box but the visiting defence have all the answers so far.
James Milner is replaced by Steven Caulker for Liverpool. Three added minutes remain at Anfield.
Chance for Liverpool! Clyne crosses for Milner but he and Benteke rather get in each others way. Milner's shot is eventually a tame one, de Gea gathers easily.
Ibe does well to get space on the left taking Henderson's pass in his stride but his cross evades Benteke.
Ibe crops up on the left wing, attempts to twist one and then the other to get away from Mata but ends up running the ball out for a goal kick. All the noise is coming from the away end at Anfield.
Rooney has taken some confidence from his goal it seems. He shoots from 40 yards. Fails to test Mignolet with that one. Still just one the shot on target for Man United but it looks like being a priceless one!
Firmino flicks on towards Benteke but the offside flag is already up against the Brazilian.
There were four Liverpool defenders challenge Fellaini in the lead up to that header before Rooney's goal. He still got a clean header on it.
Clyne wins a corner for Liverpool in front of the Kop. Milner's effort is half cleared by de Gea before Rooney thumps it clear.
Against the odds and the run of play, Louis van Gaal is on course to extend his perfect record to four league wins over Liverpool.
Christian Benteke comes on for Kolo Toure for Liverpool.
GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Man United - Wayne Rooney
Fellaini's header from the corner comes back off the bar with Mignolet stranded, Rooney adjusts his body and fires a volley back into the net from six yards. Man United ahead with their first effort on target.
Martial runs at Toure in the left hand channel. The big centre back does well to divert the teenagers cross behind for a corner.
Adam Lallana is off for Liverpool, Jordan Ibe coming on his place.
Marouane Fellaini is booked for Man United.
Sakho angles a cross into the box, far too much pace on that one however and it goes behind. Movement on the Liverpool bench suggests their first change is imminent.
Van Gaal has used all three subs with 17 minutes still to go. Klopp meanwhile has yet to twist.
Milner's cross finds Sakho at the back post but he just cant rise high enough and his header loops over the crossbar.
Ander Herrera is replaced by Memphis Depay for Man United.
Good endeavour from Borthwick-Jackson on the left as he skips away from Milner into the box. His cross is cleared however.
Approaching the final 20 minutes, will either side have the will to chase the three points?
Liverpool break at pace and Clyne feeds the ball Lallana. He shoots from 30-yards but its a poor effort and tails well wide of goal.
De Gea to the rescue! Can angles a shot fro 20-yards across goal and de Gea gets a strong arm to push it away. Firmino is on the rebound quickly but his cross is palmed away by the Spaniard.
Jesse Lingard is replaced by Juan Mata for Man United.
Chris Smalling is booked for Man United.
Chance for Liverpool! Firmino pulls the ball to Henderson 18-yards out. He goes for a side footed effort looking for the top corner but finds only de Gea's gloves.
Toure turns the ball behind for a United corner. The set piece is cleared to Darmian who steps inside a challenge and shoots right-footed from distance. Way off target and the visitors still have not had a shot on the target.
Liverpool break with Firmino and Moreno, they are outnumbered by white shirts however and quickly cough up possession.
Firmino blasts a shot well over the crossbar from 25 yards.
United's turn to cry foul in the box now. Herrera hits the deck amongst a pile of bodies but no interest from the referee.
Herrera steers a cross towards his goalkeeper, de Gea gathers in his arms. Liverpool cry passback but Mark Clattenburg says no. United go up the other end at Martial fires just wide.
That flurry of territorial advantage has, for the first time today, allowed Anfield to find its voice. This game desperately needs a goal.
The corner breaks to Clyne who opts to shoot from distance, he finds the Kop with his effort. De Gea is in no rush to restart.
Toure charges goalwards and tries his luck. Shot blocked but he stays forward and wins a corner.
Herrera handles in midfield. Free kick to Liverpool. The ball finds its way to Emre Can who skips past Smalling and drives a shot across goal that clips de Gea's heel and goes out for a corner. The temperature rises at Anfield but the corner comes to nothing.
Milner crosses this time from the right wing on his left foot but it is too high and goes out at the far post.
Smalling clears Milner's set piece. The ball comes back to Reds man but his second attempt is equally poor.
Moreno wins Liverpool this first corner of the afternoon.
Man United have now failed to score in the first half of 15 of their 22 Premier League games this season.
Manchester United get the second half of this Premier League tussle with bitter rivals Liverpool underway at Anfield.
HT: Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United - Not a whole lot going at Anfield so far. Few chances but what there has been mostly came the way of the home side with Roberto Firmino looking most likely to make something happen for the Reds.
Two added minutes at Anfield in the first half.
Looks highly likely these sides will go in level at the break, its not as bad as the first half at Old Trafford earlier this season but its not great. Hopefully we get four goals in the second half like the first meeting!
Borthwick-Jackson slots in at left back with Darmian coming across to take Young's place on the right.
Ashley Young goes off for Man United with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson coming on.
Young is back on quickly, receives a pass from Smalling and is down on the turf against just as quickly.
Firmino needed to be stronger there, definitely not a penalty. Ashley Young is down receiving treatment. Doesn't look good for him.
Mignolet collects the set piece and rolls Liverpool away on the break. Firmino gets into the box and goes down under a challenge from Martial of all people. Mark Clattenburg has a good look but keeps his arms by his side.
Rooney runs at Toure and wins another Man United corner.
Nice back heel from Firmino midway inside the United half. Alas it goes straight to the feet of Fellaini.
Ashley Young almost gets himself in a mess as he deals with punt clear from Lucas. With Henderson breathing down his neck, the United fall back eventually knocks the ball out for a throw.
Swift counter from United sees Rooney hang up a cross for Fellaini. His downward header comes off Milner for the games first corner. Blind's outswinger is headed clear by Liverpool.
This has been a decent little spell from the home side, with Jurgen Klopp becoming increasingly animated on the touchline.
Henderson has another shooting chance from 20 yards but his half volley is wayward.
Another close shave for the Man United post. Clyne gallops into space on the right wing and while his initial cross is cleared, Liverpool recycle and work the ball eventually into Henderson who flashes a shot across goal but it just beats the far post.
Firmino takes a tumble in the box under a challenge from Blind. Not much in that one and fairly muted penalty appeals from the Liverpool fans.
More clever stuff from Firmino. He spins away and find Milner, who is popping up on the left wing this time. Moreno skips past the challenge of Young but his cross is just too high for the Red shirts in the box.
Some really poor passing from both teams. First Rooney fails to find Martial and then Milner ends a decent looking Liverpool break with a pass straight to a white shirt after he had run into trouble in the form of Matteo Darmian.
Midway through the first half, very little in terms of shooting chances, one from Firmino being the sum total to date. This one could use a goal to stop the shadow boxing.
Smalling clatters through Lallana but its a fair challenge and Clattenburg correctly waves play on.
Nice move from Liverpool on the right. Can starts is before continuing his urn and getting a return from Henderson. Unfortunately for Liverpool, Can then runs the ball over the byline.
Another foul from Fellaini, this one on Clyne. The United must already be sailing close to a booking.
Fellaini has a chance to bring Martial into play on the left wing but his pass goes straight into touch. That is poor stuff from the Belgian.
More good play from Firmino as he puts Henderson into some space. The midfielder elects to try his luck from the best part of 40 yards. The shot is tame and well off target.
First flashpoint of the day as Lucas and Fellaini fall out over very little in reality. Much posturing takes place, captain's Rooney and Henderson speak to Mark Clattenburg to plead their respective cases and the referee has a word with Lucas and Fellaini. Play on.
Firmino is dropping a little deeper now to pick up possession. He win a free kick on halfway from Schneiderlin. The Brazilian could be the key to this game for Liverpool.
Another half chance for Liverpool. This time an outstanding right to left pass from Firmino finding James Milner. He shimmies in the box but his shot is high and wide.
Almost the opening goal for Liverpool! Lucas play a fantastic pass over the top to Lallana. De Gea is out smartly to stop Lallana but the breaking ball goes straight to Firmino who fires an inch wide of the post from 20 yards.
Fellaini is prone on the turf after a collision with Lucas. That looks a sore one for the United midfielder who took the full force of Lucas' as he stooped to clear a loose pass from Emre Can.
Schneiderlin concedes a free kick in the centre circle. The game hasn't really settled as yet.
Blind's set piece is easily cleared by Sakho but the visitors are coming again. Herrera eventually puts the ball behind for a goal kick.
Anthony Martial with an early chance to run at Nathaniel Clyne. He looks like he could pose plenty problems and is now scythed down by Henderson.
Adam Lallana pokes an early pass behind the United defence but Jordan Henderson isn't able to get on the end of it. United, trying to play the ball out from the back are being pressed high up the field by Liverpool in these opening moments.
Liverpool get this Premier League tussle with bitter rivals Manchester United underway at Anfield.
Louis van Gaal has won all three encounters with Liverpool so far as Man United boss.
Victory for Liverpool would see draw level on points with United, who currently sit in 6th spot. The Anfield men would need a five-goal winning margin to move about United today.
Louis van Gaal is also keeping faith, he selects the same team that started Tuesday's match at Newcastle. Juan Mata, United's match winner when these sides last met at Anfield in March, must make do with a place on the bench.
Klopp makes just one change from the team that started Wednesday's 3-3 with Arsenal at Anfield, Lucas comes in for Jordon Ibe.
Manchester United: De Gea, Young, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Lingard, Ander Herrera, Martial, Rooney.
Subs: Depay, Mata, Romero, Varela, McNair, Borthwick-Jackson, Andreas Pereira.
Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Sakho, Moreno, Henderson, Lucas, Can, Lallana, Firmino, Milner.
Subs: Benteke, Caulker, Allen, Ibe, Smith, Ward, Teixeira.
Bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester United lock horns at Anfield as Reds boss Jurgen Klopp gets his first taste of English football's fiercest rivalry.
