Koeman admits Tottenham were the better team

Cape Town - Everton manager Ronald Koeman admits Tottenham Hotspur were the better team as the Toffees fell to a 3-2 defeat in the Premier League at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Harry Kane gave the hosts the lead as early as the 20th minute and doubled his and his team's advantage on the hour mark.

The visitors pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining through Romelu Lukaku but Dele Alli restored Spurs' two-goal cushion in injury time.

Enner Valencia scored for Everton just before the final whistle but it was to little to late for Koeman's team.

The Dutch mentor told Sky Sports after the game: "We did everything to get a good result but they were the better team.

"It was a difficult game. Tottenham were strong. We fought until the last second but we made some mistakes. We know at this level we need to do a bit better.

"We know the quality of Tottenham at home. At 1-0 we had good organisation and had some counter-attack chances and then you need a bit more composure on the ball.

"Until the last second we had a chance to get a point, maybe it would not have been deserved but that's football."

Everton next face West Bromwhich Albion at Goodison Park in an English Premiership clash on Saturday as Koeman's men look to close the gap to the top six in the league standings.

Kick off is at 17:00.
