Klopp sweating over Can fitness

Cape Town - Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits he is not yet sure how long midfielder Emre Can will be out after picking up an ankle injury against Burton Albion.

The Germany international started the match, but only last 71 minutes before he had to be substituted, after going over his ankle awkwardly while stretching to intercept the ball.

The incident had very little bearing on the match itself as Klopp's side were already 3-0 up at the time and went on to win the match 4-0 in very convincing fashion.

The Livpool boss revealed Can was not in much pain, but admitted to concern as it is the very same ankle that kept him out of action towards the latter part of the 2015/16 campaign.

"I saw the situation. He stretched himself, and he had an issue with his ankle, so that's what is most concerning at the moment," Klopp said after the match.

"But it is not that serious. It's not that big of a pain any more, but it's the ankle he had problems with at the end of last season, so he's a little bit worried. Hopefully it's nothing too serious."

Liverpool's next assignment is a tricky away trip to Tottenham Hotspur for the lunch time kick-off on Saturday, but it remains to be seen whether Can will be back in time to be selected for the match.
