Klopp hopes Matip injury isn't serious

Cape Town - Jurgen Klopp hopes that Joel Matip's ankle injury sustained in Sunday's pre-season win against Wigan Athletic isn't serious, according to the club's official website.

The Cameroon international, who arrived at Anfield on a free following the expiration of his contract with FC Schalke at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, limped off in the final stages of the Reds’ 2-0 win at the DW Stadium.

Speaking in post-match interview, Klopp said he was confident that Matip would resume training again on Tuesday after taking Monday off to rest.

"I hope it’s only a minor problem. He said he’s had it one or two times already," Klopp told reporters.

"It’s the foot he had problems with in the past and then he had a little bit of pain when pre-season started ,because of the intensity.

"He’s used to it. Hopefully it is like this because everyone can see he’s in a real good way."
