Ki goal stops rot for Swansea

Swansea - South Korea international midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng scored after just nine minutes as Swansea defeated West Brom 1-0 on Saturday, handing the struggling Welsh side a first win in eight matches.

Managerless Swansea had gone seven home games without a win before Saturday, failing to find the net in five of them and started the day third from bottom in the Premier League.

But Ki stopped the rot when he found the net from close range just moments after Angel Rangel had hit the post with a right footed shot after being teed-up by Wayne Routledge.

The goal was the 26-year-old Ki's first Premier League goal of the season.

Both Rangel and Routledge had been injury doubts before the game while West Brom, winless in four matches before Saturday, were always likely to be under-powered with James McClean and Salomon Rondon both serving three-match suspensions.

Once a confident Swansea had taken the lead, West Brom were reduced to a series of half-chances but Lukasz Fabianski in the home goal comfortably kept out a Rickie Lambert header and a James Morrison shot.

Even star striker Saido Berahino, starting again on the bench, was unable to find an equaliser when he came on after an hour's play as West Brom's worst run under manager Tony Pulis continued.
