Kane seeking to follow in Ronaldo's footsteps

Cape Town - Harry Kane has outlined his target to follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps and be considered one of the world’s best footballers.

Kane finished as the Premier League’s top scorer for the second successive season this year after netting 29 times for Tottenham.

But the 23-year-old knows that he needs to make further progress if he is to force his way into the same category as Lionel Messi and Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo.

"I want to be classed in that bracket, but I know I'm not there yet," said Kane, ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against neighbours Scotland this weekend.

"Part of it is proving it on the international stage. I think at club level I've had a good few seasons, but now it's about taking that next step, international football in the big games, in the big moments.

"I'm 23 now. Hopefully I've got a quite few more years left and I can learn and get better and really push forward.

"Ronaldo won the Euros and the Champions League and that's part of the reason why most of the time he wins it. Lionel Messi's is a similar situation.

"To do that, it isn't just individual, I think it's part of a team thing as well, winning team trophies."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
