Iwobi: No regrets over Nigeria decision

Cape Town - Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi insists he has no regrets over his decision to represent Nigeria instead of England.

The 19-year-old had previously made appearances at youth level for the Three Lions before playing in Nigeria's 2-0 friendly win over Niger in October last year.

The Lagos-born forward made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles in an African Cup of Nations qualifier last month, officially ending the possibility of him representing England, .

"I understand why some England fans are surprised with my decision," Iwobi told The Sun. "It was a difficult one to make, one I thought very carefully about. I have no regrets.

"I have always been part of the England youth set-up and have 11 caps at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels. But when I was first invited by the Nigeria FA, my dad told me to follow my heart and that is what I have done."

Iwobi has burst onto the scene in recent weeks, impressing in the Champions League against Barcelona before making his Premier League debut last month.

The youngster has scored two and assisted another two in his three Premier League starts so far.
