Iheanacho prepared to fight for City future

Cape Town - Nigerian international striker Kelechi Iheanacho says he's undeterred at a relative lack of game-time and is happy with the progress he's making at Manchester City.

Iheanacho has made only five league starts for City this season, with a further 13 appearances coming via the substitute's bench, while scoring four goals.

He has also managed two starts and two goals in the Champions League, as well as three starts and a goal in the FA Cup.

As part of Pep Guardiola's star-studded City side, the 20-year-old says talk of him struggling to make the grade is unfair and he feels that his game is heading in the right direction.

"I cannot pretend that I don't hear what people back home(in Nigeria) say about my lack of regular football but I will continue to fight," the Super Eagles marksman told BBC Sport.

"I don't worry about those comments. All I need to do is to keep working, keep doing well and keep improving every day."

And Iheanacho says he's content to be learning from some of the best in the game in Manchester.

"Sergio Aguero and Gabriel (Jesus) are really really great players that we need in our team.

"As a young player, I'm happy playing alongside these fantastic players because I learn and get better every day.

"It's a big thing for my career to compete with these players. I'm okay with the way things are going and I wish Gabriel a quick recovery to return and help the team."

The Nigerian international will be hoping to be involved when City host rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in an English Premiership clash on Thursday evening.

Kick off is at 21:00.
