Holtby unlikley to join Newcastle in January

Cape Town - Hamburg midfielder Lewis Holtby will not join English Premier League side Newcastle United in the January transfer window, according to the players' agent Marcus Noack.

Reports in the English media has linked the Germany international with a return to the English top-flight where he represented Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham before making his way back to the Bundesliga in 2014.

Noack revealed his client is seeking a move away from the club due to a strained relationship with management but due to Die Rothosen's precarious position in the league standings - they'd prefer the cultured midfielder to see out his contract in a bid to help the club retain their top-flight status.

"I am assuming that Lewis will fulfil his contract with Hamburg and there are no signs from the club that he should leave earlier," Noack told Daily Blid.

"And I am sure that the club will need him over the course of the season to bring his qualities to bear."

After 11 games in the German top-flight this season, HSV are in 15th place with 10 points suffering seven defeats.
