Cape Town - Ander Herrera has been named Manchester United's Player of the Year for the 2016/17 English Premiership season after enjoying a stellar season that has seen him cement his place in Jose Mourinho's side.
Herrera beat the absent Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award at United's award ceremony on Thursday evening after an excellent season that has seen him become a valuable member to the first team squad.
As voted for by fans, Herrera just beat out Antonio Valencia to the award with the latter picking up the Player's Player of the Year award.
Herrera said: 'It is very special for me to win this award because when you see the list of the winners you realise how important it is... and because I stop the record of David [de Gea] and because the trophy stays in Spain as well.'
