Hamann: Sane arrival puts pressure on Sterling

Cape Town - Former Premier League star Dietmar Hamann believes the signing of Leroy Sane will put extra pressure on Raheem Sterling at Manchester City.

England international Sterling endured something of below-par season with City in 2015/16, tallying just six goals and two assists in 31 appearances.

City usually employing a lone striker, with Sergio Aguero up front and David Silva as well as Kevin de Bruyne supporting, and it seems Sane will challenge strongly for Sterling's spot on the left wing.

Sane fired in nine goals in 42 appearances for Schalke last season and the Germany international, widely regarded as one of the top young prospects in Europe, will no doubt give Sterling a real run for his money.

Hamann expressed his view to Sky Sports: "I think he'll come up against Sterling and I have got to say, his career has pretty much stalled since he went to City.

"He never showed the promise he showed at Liverpool earlier in his career so I think Sterling will be the one who needs to pick it up...Sane's a very gifted player and he's got a lot of pace."
