Fabregas ready for Bakayoko battle

Cape Town - Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas says that he has no concerns about his place in the team despite the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Blues manager Antonio Conte often opted for a two-man midfield of N’golo Kante and Nemanja Matic last season, with the Catalan passmaster seen as an alternative in the middle of the park.

The arrival of the French defensive midfielder from Monaco in £40m deal will only increase competition, but Fabregas says that he is "ready for anybody".

"I have been competing for 15 seasons," Fabregas said. "That will not put me down after what happened last season and how I stood up to it.

"I feel great. I understand the philosophy of the manager very, very well. I know what he wants from me. I know what I need to give to the team. I just try to keep improving for as long as I can."

While the former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge, Matic could well be on the way out with reports indicating that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for the Serbian.
