Evergreen Crouch eager for Stoke stay

London - Peter Crouch is ecstatic at the prospect of resurrecting his Stoke career after ditching plans to leave the club during the current transfer window.

The 35-year-old former England striker, who joined the Potters for a club record fee of £10 million in 2011, has struggled for game time this season.

Nearing the twilight of his playing days, and in the final few months of his Stoke contract, it appeared as if the forward was set for the Bet365 Stadium exit door. Stoke are outside Premier League contenders in .

But the player, who counts Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool as just a few of his former teams, started three games over the busy festive period, scoring two goals.

A happy Crouch explained: "Of course I've been looking at [a move].

"I know that I can still play at this level so if it's not here it will be with someone else. But it's gone well the last few games and hopefully I'll be here for a bit longer."

He added: "I haven't played much in the last 18 months, it's been very frustrating. I've always believed in myself, always known I can impact games at this level. Thankfully the manager's thrown me in for the last three games.

"I think now hopefully I've proved to him that certainly I can do the 90 minutes, it's not a problem. I train every day, I don't do anything that the rest of the lads don't do so hopefully I've impacted the games and I can have a good run."

Crouch will be hoping to continue his scoring form when Stoke welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Britannia Stadium in an FA Cup third-round tie on Saturday.

Kick off is at 17:00.
