Cape Town - Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is adamant that the Reds will be able to secure silverware this season, whilst also revealing that he isn't fully match fit yet.
The 22-year-old spoke following Jurgen Klopp's sides embarrassing 4-0 pre-season loss against Mainz - a day after Liverpool inflicted the same score-line upon the La Liga champions Barcelona at Wembley Stadium.
"We performed very, very well yesterday and today it was not a good game. You can say we're tired but that's no reason to play like that and we know we can do better," he told the club's official website.
"We want to play better next week, of course, and we have one more week to prepare well for the game."
The German international also spoke about the prospects of the new Premier League season and highlighted the quality of the new signings in Sadio Mané, Georginio Wijnaldum, Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip
"I am very excited [for the new season]. Everyone is a good player, everyone we have bought is good and they have showed that in pre-season, and we did as well against Barcelona."
"If you play for a club like Liverpool, it's such a big club, then it's always a target to win silverware and that has to be our target this year," he added.
Can who was replaced in the 46th minute in the loss against Mainz revealed that he will be 'working hard' to be fully fit for Liverpool's opening league fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday August, 14th.
"To be honest I'm not 100% and I have to work hard to get there. I have been working hard to get there for next week, then we will see how far along I am," he concluded.
