De Bruyne wants City to keep spending

Cape Town - Star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne believes Manchester City were justified in spending big money during the current transfer window.

City have reportedly spent over £200 million to bring in Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy as they prepare to mount a serious Premier League title challenge.

De Bruyne doesn't think the amount of money spent is over the top, considering how the market value of top players has increased in recent times.

"It's how the market goes. There's a lot of money [going out], but there's a lot of money going in," the Belgian said, via the Manchester Evening News.

"Who can say that spending £200 million is normal? It isn't. But how the league and football is going at the moment, it's normal prices.

"Obviously it's a lot of money, but it's things that we needed to do. The revenue that the club gets in will be more than the £200 million."

Meanwhile City coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the Manchester club will continue to spend to strengthen their squad until the transfer window closes on August 31.
