Danilo: It was easy to choose City over Chelsea

Cape Town - Danilo says he had little hesitation leaving Real Madrid for Manchester City, despite interest from Chelsea as well.

Signed from Porto in 2015, the 26-year-old enjoyed two trophy-laden seasons in Spain, but made just 17 Liga appearances last season, with Dani Carvajal still the favoured right-back.

"It wasn't a difficult decision to choose City over Chelsea," Danilo said. "The moment City called me and Pep called me, I knew what I had to do.

"Pep's words motivated me to be ready for this. It was very fast. I was training with Real Madrid and Pep called me and I was very motivated to make this change and start to work with him."

The Brazilian is one of three full-backs signed at great expense by City this transfer window, along with Kyle Walker from Spurs and Benjamin Mendy from Monaco.

Having won back-to-back Champions League trophies with Madrid (although he didn’t feature in either final), Danilo rates his chances of picking up a third medal with City.

"I have no doubt we can win the Champions League, that's why I chose this team," he added. "I see the potential in this side and I am going to do my best."

Meanwhile reports are emerging that both Manchester City and Real Madrid are ready to smash the transfer record for Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe.

According to Goal, City are trying to rush through a deal as soon as possible before Madrid can raise the necessary funds with the sale of Gareth Bale to Manchester United.
