Danilo admits to missing Madrid

Cape Town - Pep Guardiola has a task on his hands to ensure that Manchester City win some silverware this season in order to placate full-back Danilo.

The 26-year-old former América-MG, Santos and Porto right-back joined the Citizens from Real Madrid for a reported £26.5 million on a five-year contract in July.

He has played nine games in all competitions this season to help his new side to the top of the Premier League standings, while they are also progressing nicely in the Champions League.

But, Danilo who tasted success at Real last season, having joined the club from Porto in 2015, says he is missing his former surroundings.

He won back-to-back Champions League titles with Real but played second fiddle in defence to Dani Carvajal, making just 17 appearances in La Liga last season.

But despite having already begun to establish himself under Guardiola, Danilo told Cadena SER: "The truth is that I am missing Madrid.

"I spent two incredible years winning important things and people always treated me very well. But you have to turn the page."

He added: "We have a very good squad. But it's everything to improve."

Danilo will be hoping to be involved when City next travel to The Hawthorns Stadium to face West Brom in an English Premiership clash on Saturday.

Kick off is at 16:00.
