Cape Town - Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates has extended his loan deal at Portuguese club Sporting until the summer of 2017.
The former Liverpool player moved to the Primera Liga club in January and has since made 13 appearances. Sporting are two points behind leaders Benfica with one game remaining.
Sporting revealed: "We have reached agreement with Sunderland and Sebastian Coates to extend the loan until the end of season 2016-2017."
Prior to his loan move, Coates made 19 appearances for Sunderland this campaign, but has since been replaced by Ivorian centre-back Lamine Kone.
