City linked with sensational move for Messi

Cape Town - Manchester City have been linked with a sensational move for Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi.

The 29-year-old, who is widely seen as the greatest player the world has ever seen, has reportedly been stalling on a new deal at the Camp Nou.

Some media outlets have reported that the player may let his deal run down, and thereafter may consider his options.

The Manchester Evening News reported that City are confident of landing the player should he become available. The publication said, "Messi is being linked with a sensational move to Manchester City, and that could spark the Blues into action.

"If Messi indicates that he will run down his contract, rather than risk losing him for nothing, Barca are likely to be open to offers. City are confident that they will be at the head of the queue for his services if he does ever move on from his only senior club."

The Citizens have enormous spending power in the transfer market due to the cash-rich resources of the owners from the Abu Dhabi United Group. If Messi was to join City, he would arguably receive the most lucrative contract in football history.
