Cisse: Liverpool can challenge for the title

Cape Town - Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse feels the Reds can push for the league title next season, and has backed Jurgen Klopp to become a club legend.

The French journeyman, whose career at the Merseyside outfit failed to live up to the expectations his £14m price tag created, believes that Klopp has what it takes to turn the club's fortunes around as early as next season.

Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers mid-season, took the Reds club to the brink of two cup triumphs, and has been an instant hit with the Kop faithful. He appears to have a knack for getting the best out of players who have underperformed in recent years.

"I think Liverpool needs someone like him, somebody passionate who is used to managing clubs with huge reputations," Cisse told Goal website.

"He makes miracles. If you let him build his team and make a real preparation, I think it can go very well.

"He has what it takes, he returns to the philosophy of the club. He can become a legend."

Cisse had a confident response to a question about Klopp's ability to challenge the Premier League's top clubs for the trophy next season.

"Yes, I will not forget him in the title race," he said.

"I was at Liverpool a few days ago, they want to be back on top, where the club deserves to be. They will do anything to go back, they will use their financial means to do so. I know that."

The former France international also weighed in on the topic of which country has the most competitive league in Europe, confidently backing England for this honour.

"There was already no doubt. Imagine if (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic signs there... There will be even less.

"The Premier League have the best players, they just needed the best technicians to improve the game and put it all in place," he added.
