Cape Town - Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has been sent off to Premier League rivals Middlesbrough on a one-year loan deal.
The 21-year-old, formerly of Southampton, managed 22 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners last season, but will be hoping for a more regular role at the Riverside Stadium.
"I'm really pleased," said Boro manager Aitor Karanka. "It's a position where we've been working towards bringing the right player in.
"We haven't been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he's going to help us a lot.
"I'd like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That's important and we're looking forward to working with him."
Chambers could be set to feature for Boro when Premier League action resumes against Crystal Palace on Saturday the 10th of September.
