Chambers handed Arsenal extension

Cape Town - Calum Chambers is hoping for a long, successful career with Arsenal after signing a new deal that ties him to the Premier League club until 2021.

The 22-year-old defender made his Gunners debut as a teenager after joining from Southampton in 2014, and racked up 36 appearances across all competitions in his first season at the Emirates Stadium.

Chambers was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough last term to get more game time, although he was unable to help the Teessiders retain their top-flight status.

The Saints youth product has yet to feature in the league for Arsene Wenger's side since the new campaign got underway, but he did start in the 1-0 win over Doncaster in the EFL Cup last month.

The FA Cup champions confirmed on Wednesday that Chambers had been handed a two-year contract extension, with the youngster determined to make a lasting impact in north London.

"Proud to sign a new contract with @arsenal," he said on Twitter. "I know I'm still a young player and I want to have my best years playing for this football club.

"I want to win as many trophies with Arsenal as possible. I'm going to repay the fans for the faith they've shown in me. Can't wait to get going again."
