Burnley breaks club record fee on Defour

Burnley - Burnley has completed the signing of Belgium midfielder Steven Defour from Belgian side Anderlecht for a club record fee.

Burnley says 28-year-old Defour signed a three-year contract. The fee was not stated, though it has been reported as £7m.

Newly promoted to the Premier League, Burnley began with a 1-0 home loss against Swansea at the weekend.

Defour says in a statement: "I hope I can bring my experience to the team and the club to stay in the Premier League. It is a new challenge for me, but I like that."

Defour has won league titles in Belgium with Standard Liege and in Portugal with Porto.

He played at the 2014 World Cup but was not selected for the European Championship in France.
