London - The
agent of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has revealed that the
fullback is on the verge of signing a new extended contract at the north
The Spaniard's current deal still has over two years to run, but
representative Albert Botines stated that his client is looking forward
to adding a few more years on to his stay at the Gunners.
"We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign," he told Sky Sports.
"Hector is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he
has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good
Bellerin had been linked with a return to Barcelona, but joked last month that he wouldn't even answer the phone if they called.
"If I wanted to play [at Barca] I would have stayed there," he said.
"I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to
come here. I'm not looking back, I'm just looking to help Arsenal."
The 21-year-old has put in a string of exceptional performances since breaking into Arsenal's first-team and was voted into the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2016 at the PFA Awards in April.
The Spanish right-back has become a permanent fixture in the Gunners team, using his lightning quick pace in attack and cover defence.
