Begovic eyes Stamford Bridge exit

Cape Town - Asmir Begovic is hopeful of securing a move away from Chelsea having grown tired of being the second choice goalkeeper behind Thibault Courtois.

The 29-year-old former Stoke City man joined the Blues in July 2015 as cover to the Belgian, and while he has been an excellent stand-in-stopper, when called upon, he is desperate to once again become a first-choice in his own right.

A former Portsmouth youth keeper, Begovic spent a number of years on loan learning his trade, at the likes of La Louvere, Macclesfield, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Ipswich ahead of joining the Potters in 2010.

He went on to make 173 appearances for Stoke before swapping the Bet365 Stadium for Stamford Bridge.

This season he had made just three EFL Cup appearances and two FA Cup appearances, including in this Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup win over Brentford.

Bournemouth are a potential destination for the Bosnia and Herzegovina, but Chelsea are determined to sign a replacement before letting him go.

Begovic told reporters: "I have spoken with the boss - we are quite open about it, he knows I am desperate to play, and that's all it is really.

"If he can make it happen for me he will. That is something that is going to be sorted out in the next couple of days.

"I'm 29, 30 in the summer, and feel fantastic and in great shape. It would be a waste not to play and show people what I can do."

He added: "I hope that the team lifts the title and maybe I will be part of that, but it is difficult when you don't play for a certain amount of time. That overrides everything, your football."
