Asoro claims Arsenal interest

Cape Town - Sunderland youngster Joel Asoro admits he is not the only one shocked by the news that Arsenal want to sign him during the off-season.

The 18-year-old academy graduate was handed his first-team debut by former Black Cats manager David Moyes last season against Middlesbrough in the Premier League.

Asoro also came off the bench in the FA Cup against Burnley while he made two starts in the EFL Cup, and despite only appearing four times for the relegated Wearsiders, they hold him in very high regard.

The Sweden Under-21 international is trying to remain level-headed after being taken aback by the interest from the FA Cup champions.

"People were a little shocked because I have played very little first-team football," the teenage forward told Swedish reporters.

"I've heard a little bit, but if I think about it too much, it becomes 'what if, what if'. I try not to think about it too much.

"It came as a shock. It is clear clubs contact each other and stuff, but it's my agent in charge of it. I try to focus on my football."
