Andre Ayew doubtful for Mozambique clash

Cape Town - Ghana are sweating over the fitness of Andre Ayew ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations double header against Mozambique.

The Swansea City midfielder injured his ankle during the win over Norwich City in early March and he was forced to sit out his team's 3-2 loss against Bournemouth over the weekend.

"It's probably going to be a couple of weeks. He [Andre Ayew] just turned his ankle," caretaker boss Alan Curtis told BBC Radio Wales.

The club decided to send him to France for tests and scans have confirmed the injury is more serious than initially thought, ruling him out of the Swans' match against Aston Villa this weekend.

He is also a major doubt for his country's AFCON qualifiers against Mozambique in Accra on March 24 in Accra and March 27 in Maputo.

Meanwhile, there are also question marks over Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan's fitness ahead of the game as he had been struggling with a thigh injury.

However, the striker made his return for his Chinese club Shanghai SIPG over the weekend and played the full 90 minutes.
