Cape Town - AC Milan have ruled out a move for Cesc Fabregas, despite speculation that Chelsea rejected a bid from the Italian giants.
Fabregas has started just once for Chelsea this season, with question marks over whether the Spanish international has a future under Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
Milan were linked with Fabregas during the summer, amidst reports that Chelsea turned down a formal offer for the 29-year-old’s services.
However, Milan boss Vincenzo Montella insists he is only in the market for a direct replacement for injured captain Riccardo Montolivo in the January transfer window and that rules out a move for Fabregas.
"We're looking for a player who has the characteristics that Montolivo has, who can also operate in a defensive-midfield two," said Montella.
"Fabregas? He doesn't have those characteristics."
