Young United star charged

London - Manchester United's highly-rated young midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe has been charged with drink driving, Greater Manchester police confirmed on Sunday.

Tunnicliffe, 19, was charged with driving with excess alcohol and is due to appear in court on October 25.

The charge relates to an incident which happened shortly before 13:15GMT on Saturday when a Range Rover collided with a van.

The van subsequently collided with the wall of a house and police said the front seat passenger of the Range Rover suffered a minor whiplash injury in the collision and both vehicles were badly damaged.

Tunnicliffe, who was given his first professional contract with United in December 2009, is regarded as a potential star by boss Alex Ferguson and the teeanger made his debut as a substitute against Newcastle in a League Cup tie in September.

He spent most of last season on loan at Championship club Peterborough, who are managed by Ferguson's son Darren.
