Wilshere extends Arsenal stay

London - Arsenal says England midfielder Jack Wilshere has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.

The 18-year-old Wilshere, who made his debut for England's senior side in a friendly against Hungary in August, has established himself as a first-team regular with Arsenal this season.

Wilshere was the youngest player to represent the Gunners in the league when he turned out against Blackburn in 2008, age 16.

Wilshere says "to be offered a new contract means everything to me ... this is the perfect club."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger added on Monday that "Jack is a fantastic footballer with a huge amount of potential ... who could be an extremely influential player at the top level of the game."
