London - Wigan Athletic striker Grant Holt has been loaned to Aston Villa until the end of the season, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

Holt, 32, joined second-tier Wigan from Norwich City for a reported fee of 2 million ($3.3 million, 2.4 million euros) in July, but has scored only two goals in his 21 appearances to date.

The move to Villa Park reunites him with Villa manager Paul Lambert, who was Holt's manager at Norwich for three years.

Grant scored 53 goals in 92 games under Lambert at Norwich and the Villa manager said that he was excited about renewing their collaboration.

"When I knew Grant had become available, it was something I wanted to pursue quickly because he'll add strength and experience to what is still a young squad overall," Lambert told the Villa website.

"Having worked with him for three years at Norwich, I know what he can do and that's important."

Villa have struggled for goals this season, scoring only 20 in their 21 league games to date, with last season's top scorer Christian Benteke mustering just five goals in the campaign to date.

"It's a massive opportunity for me personally, an opportunity I couldn't turn down," Holt said.

"To be able to come back into the Premier League, especially at a club as big as Villa, is fantastic and it's a an opportunity for me to work with the gaffer and his staff again as well."
