Wenger expected to sign soon

London - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he expected to sign a new contract after his side overcame Hull City 3-2 in Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Wenger's current deal is due to expire in the close season and when he was asked if he would sign a new one in the days ahead, he replied: "That normally should happen, yes."

Pressed as to whether the circumstances were sufficiently 'normal' for him to sign a new deal, he said: "We are in very normal circumstances now.

"It was never a question of leaving. It was a question of doing the right job for this club."

Arsenal's victory over Hull, in which they came from two goals down, saw them end a nine-year wait for silverware.

Goals from James Chester and Curtis Davies put Hull 2-0 up inside eight minutes, but Arsenal levelled through Santi Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny before Aaron Ramsey netted an extra-time winner.

Wenger, 64, won three English Premiership titles and four FA Cups in the first half of his 17-and-a-half-year Arsenal tenure, but prior to Saturday he had not lifted a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup.

Match-winner Ramsey told ITV: "This is for Arsene. And we now know he'll put pen to paper."
