Cape Town - Former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle believes Alan Pardew 'must
be doing something right' if he still has the faith of the Newcastle
players.
Pardew has been the subject of much abuse from the Toon Army of late following a dismal 18 months, with most of the Newcastle supporters voicing their disdain for the 53-year-old on matchdays, calling for his sacking through banners and chants.
Many believe Pardew is lucky to still have his job at St James Park, but Waddle says he may have bought himself some time by getting the squad to give their all on the pitch despite the situation.
"The one thing you do not want when walking on to the pitch is fans holding banners up with ‘manager out’," the former England midfielder told ESPN.
"The players are still playing for Pardew so he must be doing something right. I was at the Stoke City game and Newcastle played very well. They just could not grab a goal.
"They dug in against Swansea and got a good result after going down to 2-0, so you cannot say the players are not giving it everything."
Pardew's men next welcome Premier League newcomers Leicester City to St James Park on Saturday as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.
