Cape Town - Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo is on the brink of joining Aston Villa after the player's club confirmed the deal on social media.
The Spanish club's Twitter account account stated that "an agreement in principle" has been reached with the Premier League club and the 28-year-old defender would travel to England on Monday to complete a medical.
Aston Villa, who have signed defensive duo Jordan Amavi and Micah Richards, are looking to added the palyer, who made 29 appearances last season after losing Ron Vlaar in the off-season.
Villa have endured a torrid transfer window after losing key players, Christian Benteke (Liverpool) and Fabian Delph (Manchester City), ahead of the new season.
Bournemouth host Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League season on August, 9.
The match at the Vitality Stadium kicks off at 16:00.
