Vidal's knee holds up United deal

Cape Town - Arturo Vidal's national team coach has revealed the reason behind Manchester United's stalled bid for the star midfielder.

According to the Express, Jorge Sampaoli claims that Arturo Vidal's move may be scuppered due to Louis van Gaal's fears over the player's fitness.

Sampaoli told reporters that he is confident that Vidal will remain with Juventus because of van Gaal's unwillingness to take a risk on the player who has been battling a knee issue for some time.

He told El Mercurio: "United want Vidal but Van Gaal has doubts.

"Vidal was a great example during the World Cup in Brazil of not playing in the best of conditions.

"Manchester United want him, but what restrains his move to England for $80million is Van Gaal, who has doubts over his condition to the knee."

Vidal turned in some impressive performances for Chile during the Soccer World Cup but Sampaoli was of the view that Vidal could perform even better if fully fit.

Juventus are reluctant to let the Chilean star go after he has become a central figure in their record breaking side.
