Cape Town - Dutch international coach Louis van Gaal, who is set to take over at Old Trafford as soon as this week, has hinted that Robin van Persie will be his new captain.
According to the Mirror, Van Gaal was full of praise for his star striker after he netted against Ecuador in a pre-Soccer World Cup friendly, and expressed his delight with his national captain.
"He plays very well", he said.
"Now he is coming from a bad injury and he scores a fantastic goal - unbelievable - and he was pressing, so I was happy with him, but he is also a good captain'.
When asked to elaborate on why that is, the 62-year-old couldn't hide his admiration. With the exit of current captain Nemanja Vidic, the captain's armband is up for grabs and Van Gaal looks set to give it to Van Persie.
