Van Persie heading to Man Utd

2012-08-15 20:43

Manchester - Manchester United said on Wednesday they had agreed a deal to sign Dutch striker Robin van Persie from English Premier League rivals Arsenal.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin Van Persie," said a club statement.

"The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course."

Van Persie stunned Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when he declared immediately after Euro 2012 that he wanted to leave the north London team because he felt the club's ambitions did not match his own.

That came after a superb season where the forward scored 37 goals in all competitions, a tally that led him to being voted player of the year by both his fellow professionals in England and the country's Football Writers' Association.

Van Persie's announcement sparked interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, as well as Italian giants Juventus, but it is United manager Alex Ferguson who has won the race for the striker's coveted signature.

It is not expected either a medical or indeed personal terms will prove a barrier to the 29-year-old's move to Old Trafford.

No fee has been confirmed by either United or Arsenal, although it has been reported as around the £20m mark.

Provided the deal goes through smoothly, Van Persie could make his United debut in their Premier League opener away to Everton on Monday.

He is a football mercenary that has past his prime and prone to injury...a really great deal for Arsenal!! This has been the best transfer window for Arsenal. Our new recruits are far better suited for the Arsenal mix and younger than RVP that turns 30 this year. RVP had one great season without injury and was assisted to a load of goals by some great players that are still in the team. Good luck to RVP and ManU... I look forward to seeing all the egos battle it out at ManU!!

      vernon.samuel.7 - 2012-08-16 08:41

Are you Gunners not concerned that Arsenal is not looking like a good attractive club for the biggest players? I suspect that the fans will turn on Wenger again this season if they do not make top 4.

  • millionwatts1 - 2012-08-15 21:12

I don't see him playing better than he did for the Gunners last term. So good move by Arsenal to cash in because he is close to 30 anyway.

  • dave.kofang - 2012-08-15 21:21

He is a worst whore of all.He is just like politicians crossing the floor in parliament.

  • marc.grobler.54 - 2012-08-16 08:42

RVP will become the next Berbatov or Veron at Man U. He will have a mediocre season (if he survives the first few weeks and doesnt get injured) Fergie will limit his starts in the Premier League and use him in FA cup and League cup games untill his patience wears out and loans him to some second rate turkish or russian club next year to fade away into the wilderness like so many others before him!

  • bmaestro - 2012-08-16 08:47

good luck RVP.I am quiet sure you will be one of the most fierce striking force with Rooney.Wenger shot himself in the foot no doubt
