Van Gaal still chasing defenders

Cape Town - Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is looking to add at least two more defenders before the end of the transfer window.

The Independent are reporting that Manchester United's transfer activity is far from over this summer transfer window.

New United boss Louis van Gaal, speaking after United's friendly against Inter, said that while he was happy with the progress of the side, he admitted his squad needed new faces.

“We are doing well but we are looking for defenders,” said the manager, with Mats Hummels, Thomas Vermaelen and Daley Blind on the radar.

“Defenders have gone and we have to replace them.”

A deal to bring Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen seems more plausible, with Dortmund refusing to engage into negotiations for the sale of Hummels.

While van Gaal looks to bring in defenders, it seems forward players might be heading for the exit with Fellaini and Javier Hernandez the most likely to depart.

Reports suggest Hernandez, who was given only 12 minutes of game time against Inter Milan, does not fit in with van Gaal's tactics.

When asked whether the Mexican will be sold, van Gaal threw the striker's future into doubt by answering: “I can’t answer as he is a United player at the moment.”

Tottenham are keen to land the striker should van Gaal decide to cash in on the 26-year-old.
