Van Gaal eyes Robben swoop

Cape Town - Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen on taking Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben with him to Manchester United after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Van Gaal is set to take over at Old Trafford when this year's global showpiece comes to an end next month, and the tactician is reportedly using his close proximity to the Dutch squad to try and encourage potential off-season switches.

Nigel de Jong has already been tipped as a major transfer target of Van Gaal's, and the United boss is now ready to start working on a deal for Robben, according to former Dutch international and legend Bryan Roy.

"I think Louis wants him (Robben) desperately to come to Manchester United," said Roy.

He added: "With football everything is possible."
