Cape Town - Former Netherlands star Pierre van Hooijdonk has made startling revelations about the future of Robin Van Persie at Manchester United.
The Mirror reports that Van Hooijdonk has revealed that his former national teammate was being offered to clubs in Turkey since January.
Van Persie has been linked with a switch to Fenerbahce with Van Hooijdonk now claiming that a deal has long since been discussed.
“As early as January of this year, I received information from Turkey about Robin and Fenerbahce,” said Van Hooijdonk.
“The minute this information came, you knew that United had sent people to test the water for a move."
Van Persie's contract expires next year and Van Hooijdonk suggests agents were searching for clubs capable of doing a deal for Van Persie.
Van Hooijdonk believes Manchester United were attempting to do a deal behind their talisman's back and force the player out of the club.
Van Hooijdonk has advised the Dutch striker to quit United this summer and further suggests that the player's relationship with manager Louis van Gaal is not as good as it once was.
