Cape Town - Despite a series of impressive displays for the Netherlands at the 2014 Soccer World Cup, Stefan De Vrij was never on the Manchester United transfer list according the player.
SkySports confirm that Louis van Gaal never made an approach for the talented young defender.
Speaking at his first press conference as a Lazio player, De Vrij insisted he is happy with his decision to join Lazio and would like Dutch teammate Ron Vlaar to join him.
Playing at the heart of the Dutch's three man defence, De Vrij was a standout performer in Brazil and attracted interest from various clubs.
"Several clubs contacted me, I don't think it's fair to say the names. I can say that Manchester United were not one of them."
After ruling United as a potential new club, De Vrij was pleased to join Lazio.
"I am very happy to be here in a big club and in a big city.
"Lazio were the only club that showed a real interest in me before the World Cup.
"After the World Cup, I evaluated other options but I received the best feelings from Lazio and I'm happy to be here." said De Vrij.
When asked to comment on the speculation surrounding Vlaar's future, De Vrij said that the pair were good friends and that he considered Vlaar to be a quality player.
