Cape Town - Manchester United reached a new low last night after crashing out of the League Cup with an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons.
United manager Louis Van Gaal now wants to add more quality to his misfiring midfield and is reportedly interested in Liverpool's Joe Allen.
According to the Mirror, United are planning to make a £20 million bid for the Welshman and sent a scout to Manchester City on Monday night to watch the 24-year-old in action against the champions.
Allen, who impressed Van Gaal during an international game against Holland, was used mainly as a sub last season at the Merseyside club, raising questions over his future at Anfield.
