United make move for Bastian - reports

Berlin - Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has been offered a two-year contract to join Manchester United, according to German daily Bild on Friday.

United's attempt to lure the 30-year-old from Bayern Munich, after 17 years with the Bavarian giants, looks to be getting serious.

He is reported to have been offered a salary of around €10 million per year - what the Bayern vice-captain currently earns in Munich.

Schweinsteiger - who has 111 caps for Germany and having made 342 appearances for Bayern - still has a year left on his contract and he is expected to take part in Bayern's team presentation on Saturday with the German champions taking part in a four-team tournament in Moenchengladbach on Sunday.

Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal has been a fan of Schweinsteiger since 2009-2011 when he coached Bayern to the 2010 Champions League final, while the Dutchman is also trying to lure Spain international Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said he has had a brief chat with Schweinsteiger, and admitted the defensive midfielder is said to be 'flattered' by United's approach, but Munich are waiting to hear what the player will decide.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
