United fans taunt Liverpool

2011-05-17 16:12

Manchester - Manchester United fans have poked fun at their arch-rivals Liverpool. A day after their team surpassed Liverpool's record 18 league titles, United fans hung a banner at Liverpool's stadium reading "19-18."

However, their fans are no longer laughing quite so hard at Manchester City.

City's win in last weekend's FA Cup final has prompted United to remove a banner hanging at their stadium mocking City's long stretch without a trophy.

The annually updated banner had reached "35 years" this season.

United amassed 13 league championships, eight FA Cups, four League Cups, two Champions League titles and the European Cup Winners' Cup between City winning the 1976 League Cup and beating Stoke 1-0 in Saturday's final.

CL FINAL = footballing lesson part 2. united fans wont admit it but their side is weaker than the 2009 final team-no ronaldo in peak form-while barca is twice as strong. 4-0

      Hadley Petersen - 2011-05-18 23:55

ok as far as i know we played in the 2008 final so you must have watched the wrong team barca twice as strong or is messi twice as strong...look dude we have a team that is playing well together...barca has messi playing well...barca's back four are not good and imagine valencia, chicha, nani and roo running at puyol, alves, piquet and abidal, they not pacey players besides for alves but he doesnt defend rather wait for the game and lets see, people forget we beat the same team in 2008 with iniesta, xavi and that other guy...midget 1.5....

      Paul - 2011-05-19 07:14

In that final Ronaldo was one of the worst players on the field....idiot

      LUFC - 2011-05-19 20:58

Unfortunately Barcelona are not 'twice as strong'. They've looked jaded for about a month.

      LUFC - 2011-05-19 20:59

And David Villa upfront can't score to save his life. 0 in 16

Me as a United fan admit this is one of the weaker United sides in recent years but the pace of Chicarita should help us,what team do u support @ "SAMURAI DEMO" ?

This behaviour from the Red Devils fans is exactly why so many other club's supporters hate them, not because they're winning trophies & sh*t but simply because of their lack of sportsman respect, some of the Man-U fans have never ever kicked a soccer ball let alone still play for a football club they're just a unsporting bunch of braggers. The real bombshell is 'what are they gona do when the era of Man-U comes to an end, i.e. when Furguson retires so does all the trophies & on that you can bet your bottom dollar!!! Man-U will never be able to replace Furguson. Douglish & Wenger are ten years his junior's... what's gona happen to that 19-18 record then??

      Hadley Petersen - 2011-05-18 23:44

ok first of all, this is how you spell Ferguson...then second of all...manchester united is not as dumb as other teams, we have planned already for the future, do you really think we wont already by now know who will replace fergie. wenger and douglish is one of many who is ten years his juniors no doubt about that but it doesnt mean they will win anything...and for all the people who think we will lose to Barca, dont know anything about soccer they just going on the fact that they have some of the best players in the world...and even if we do lose so what,we will be the 2nd best team in europe...but we wont. question if messi is that good why didnt he guide argentina to winning the world cup...if you can answer me that then you can speak to me

"Let he who be without sin cast the first stone!" Remember that it was not the Man U suppporters that started the taunts it was the Pool supporters. When United first won the EPL in 1991 the comments from the Pool supporters was that United would have to wait another 20+ years for another leauge title. Then came the taunts about the 18 league title record. So when United surpassed that record it was obviously payback time for the supporters - after all it has been a long wait...Suddenly the fans are we are not arrogant we are proud!! Proud to be supporters of a fantastic team with fantastic history. We have supported our team through the difficult periods and now we are basking in our team's glory. We recognise that the wheel is round and they may come a time where we will not be winning frequently enough but guess what we will still support them because we are UNITED.

      Albo - 2011-05-19 09:01

What if Mourinho takes over from Fergie??

      Winston - 2011-05-19 12:35

@ FRANKLEA!!! IDIOT!!!! you think the only reason I support United is because they win... ??!! All United supporters are just glory hunters, arn't they?? And I suppose all Liverpool supporters are the real thing!!! You obviously have a degree or something in football study, dont you??? Assuming that United will fall apart once Ferguson has left, shows your stupidity... United have NOT won all the titles by merely being a lucky side year in and year out. Its called planning and hard work! The winning mentality is something that has been ingrained at Manchester United! its part of the DNA of the club.

      Winston - 2011-05-19 12:50

@ HADLEY. Good points. This laaitie Messi, as good as he is, and he is very good, still needs to do alot more on the international stage before he can remotely be compared to Maradona, Pele, Zidane etc. I might have been to young to remember Maradona very well, but I do remember Zidane well! The way he, singlehandedly, tore apart Brazil in the 2006 WC Quarters ( I think it was Quarters) was outstanding! So, Messi, I sincerely hope you bring your A-game to wembley... You are gonna need it!!!

      nicolaskza - 2011-05-20 09:23

Couldn't agree more. Watch Mancity now that they've won their first one in 35 years. Reckon they're going to go on a roll and stick it to ManU going forward. Besides the fans being bad sports what about the players, pure cheats and dirty when opponents are getting the better of them, e.g Vidic handball against Arsenal, should've got a red card and would've missed the game against Chelsea which could've changed the whole title race. As for the ref's not awarding penalties against them ......

  • MrMM - 2011-05-17 23:35

this is some fun taunts, hope no one was getting seriously hurt during all this, this proves u win some u loose some, they taunt liverpool but have to accept taunts from man city, this is football and u should be able to accept the victories and the defeats, come the 28th, 100% behind Man U, people are saying the side is weaker coz there is no Cristiano, but I say at least we not relying on one man to win the game and go at it as a team effort.

      Hadley Petersen - 2011-05-18 23:46

agreed!!!! take out messi who is going to score them all those goals and dont tell me villa...MAN U TO WIN 1-0!!!!CHICHARITO TO SCORE!

  • Shankly - 2011-05-19 10:18

You are right Hadley. You are gonna have to imagine Chicha, Valencia and Nani running at barca's back four, because once again, United won't be able to get the ball off from Barca :)..Jokes aside, this game will be won in midfield. No chance in hell Carrick or Fletcher can stop Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta. Messi is so brilliant because the team around him is brilliant. Look at Messi for Argentina at last year's world cup.. anonymous. I think Schalke made you believe you brilliant. Heck, they made Carrick look like Xavi. Anyway, can't wait for the final. It's going to be interesting. Good luck to both teams.

      Winston - 2011-05-19 12:57

@ Shankly. United are not stupid enough to think they are good just because they thrashed Schalke. We all learnt something from those 2 Schalke - United matches... Lesson: Schalke dont belong in the champions league! ANd United taught them that lesson. They not the first club to school by United. I think Barca are going to have some nightmares before the 28th...
