London - Liverpool are heading in the right direction under new coach Kenny Dalglish according to striker Fernando Torres.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw with city rivals Everton on Sunday, the back-to-form Spaniard said that the dismal start to the season uner Roy Hodgson was quickly being forgotten.

"We are disappointed with the result but we are improving and moving in the right direction," said the 26-year-old.

"The performance of the team was very good again and we are playing better.

"The most important thing is getting results but if we keep playing like that they will come soon.

"Our target is just winning games. We will see what happens in the next game because we need to start getting three points in every game.

"We will see what happens at the end of the season but we have to start winning because it's a long time since our last one (against Bolton on New Year's Day)."

Torres felt Liverpool could have nicked the derby game with a bit more luck as after he hit the post in the first half the home side dominated, with Raul Meireles scored his first goal since joining in the summer.

Half-time saw their fortunes turn around as Everton scored twice within six minutes of the restart but Dirk Kuyt's penalty ensured Dalglish finally got a point on the board.

"If we had taken the chances we had, particularly in the first half, we would have been winning by two or three at half-time - but that's football," Torres told LFCTV.

"In the second half they started well and scored two goals.

"After that we had a good reaction and got level at 2-2.

"We had chances at the end but you don't always get the reward you deserve when you play well. We are disappointed by that."

What resultes are they talking about? I mean come on!

      Bob - 2011-01-17 14:14

All good news to me being a Liverpool supporter, I can already see the difference and the King hasn't been in charge a fortnight yet, the glory days will be back, as a scouser you get that "feeling" it's like nothing else, twenty years since we've had that.

      Clive - 2011-01-17 14:35

Yeah Bob, i could not have said it better my Red brother. This Lee guy talks like a Manure fan. Until the stats changes, Liverpool will still be THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAM IN ENGLAND, and there's nothing you can do about That. YNWA.

      matthewsmth135 - 2011-01-17 14:40

@Bob, presuming that your only affiliation to Liverpool is that you support a team from Liverpool, doesn't make you a scouser. Only people from Liverpool or have family in Liverpool can refer to themselves as scouers. So to all you idiot local liverpool fans who keep calling themselves scousers, thinking its some sort of nickname for your team, it isn't. So Bob If you are some how from Liverpool then ignore what I just wrote, but for the rest of you local liverpool fans I hope that you have learnt something new.

I guess Torres ascuse for not scoring is because of the old coach, is that what is implying...who is he going to blame next?

      TRUE Red - 2011-01-17 15:02

El Nino is right. He is not talking about results - read the article. He is talking about PERFORMANCES ! And they have inproved drastically since the King came back. There is more to footie than just the 3 points sometimes. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I believe we already took that step last week at old trafford. Like Bob said, it's a feeling scouser's all over the world (lol at matthewsmth135) have had since KK walked out the tunnel. And it's already showing on the pitch as well.

      Bob - 2011-01-18 08:05

Mathewsmith, yes I did live in Liverpool at one time, might be a bit strong calling myself a full blooded scouser, but I take yr point.

wut eva torres is smoking, i want some ! dude has no clue what he's on about, should be more worried about getting relegated

  • RED MANC - 2011-01-17 15:05

What ''direction'' is Torres referring to ? Loserpool either move down or remain where there are , they are still behind the Toffees and relegation still beckons like a long lost lover . These chaps have lost it completely . I don't see what they are so happy about - their cherished record of 19 league titles is about to be matched by the biggest and most valuable brand in world football led by the best manager in the EPL and in all likelihood will be surpassed next season whilst Loserpool try to remain in the EPL . GGMU !!!!!

      ulstersaffa - 2011-01-17 15:49

lol! not so much of a red manc! if you knew anything about your team you would know that if united win the league this season they surpass our record. but we will still be the most succesfull because the amount of eurpoean trophies and other cup wins.

      Bob - 2011-01-18 08:17

Red Manc, you are missing a very important point here, you are just a Manure supporter one of the lowest, hated forms of life in footie terms, I on the other hand am so fortunate to be a Liverpool supporter, the highest and and most cherished form of life in footie terms, my team are legends, they are steeped in the history of the game, they have the best record of any british team, ever !!!!, they have legends like Shankley, Paisley, Dalglish, Barnes, Rush, Fowler etc etc etc, you on the other hand have a drunken Jock as a manager, and 3 legends Best, Ramsey and Charlton, as for this season you are the best of a bad bunch, worst premier season ever, enjoy yr days they are numbered, the true reds are on their way back.

      A(N)ON - 2011-01-18 09:39

Bob - dude, what are you smoking man? Pool supporters the highest and most cherished form of life! Really, was it not the Pool supporters who rampaged through a European Champions League game that resulted in a ban for all English clubs in the Champions League? Let me not remind you of the recent weekend where 2 Toffees supporters where stabbed. I think your idea of best of the best or highest and cherished is an inverse relationship.

  • PatcheS - 2011-01-17 15:28

@Clive, you obviously have a chip on your shoulder with Man U being a superior team. You made the mistake of assuming something and made yourself look a real twat. You could easily be from Merseyside! Idiot. @TRUE Red, If there is one you should have learned being a Scousepool supporter is to never open your Carragher sized mouth before you are sure of a turn around. Liverpool will not make the top 10 this year. Accept it, rather start focusing on next year.

      TRUE Red - 2011-01-17 16:04

I am not opening my big mouth - things just look optimistic at the moment. Maybe not the results yet, but the performances. You'd have to be blind not to see the improvement ! No Top 10 you say ? I say Top SIX is still on - let's check in May ;-)

      G0ldf!nger - 2011-01-17 17:27

@ TRUE Red Dude, are you really a football fan or are you a dagga smoker who moonlights as a crack addict? In order for Liverpool to make Top 6, they would need 12 other teams above them to start dropping points. Assuming Liverpool have a miraculous turn-around and Torres partners with Pele' to start an amazing scoring blitz, and Reina in goals has Fat Albert to block the goalmouth with him as a central defender, do you really think the current Top 6 teams will lose that many games to allow Liverpool a spot before the seasons over? Put some more green in the bong and keep puffing!

      TRUE Red - 2011-01-18 09:33

Goldfinger, are you retarded ? By top 6 i mean SIXTH - that would be another incredible comeback after the sh!t Woy put us in & spending the 1st 3rd of the season in the relagation zone ! We are currently 8 points behind 6th, with a game in hand - i've seen us beat more difficult circumstances numerous times in the past & i will "walk on with hope in my heart" as always. Stevie & Carra to return, maybe 1 or 2 decent signings, who knows ...

  • VERNON - 2011-01-17 15:56

Well said Torres ,I rate Roy as good coach, but he is not king Kenny and could not raise our players ,however we need to give Kenny some money and the glory days will be back, imagine if Stevie G was not suspended and he was playing for his idol

  • mexicanman - 2011-01-18 08:05

liverpools problems are in defence. The only defender earning his keep at the moment is Reina. Fat Albert could just be who they need.
